Take your hand-building practice to the next level in this immersive two-part workshop designed for experienced potters, led by Alexander Mamas.

Alexander is an Australian studio potter, ceramics educator and writer based in Queensland. Trained via the National Art School (NAS) in Sydney, he has worked extensively with clay for over a decade and contributed publications such as Compassionate Clay-munication in The Journal of Australian Ceramics.

Over two consecutive Sundays, you'll learn the techniques required to build large-scale coil vessels with strength, balance, and confidence. Working progressively across both sessions allows time for careful construction,refinement, and considered surface development while your work reaches the ideal stage for the next step.

We'll explore:

• Building strong, stable forms using large-scale coil construction

• Controlling wall thickness and maintaining structural integrity

• Creating dynamic forms with proportion and balance

• Joining, compressing, and refining coils for strength and a seamless finish

• Surface treatments and finishing techniques

• Managing drying between sessions to minimise cracking and distortion

This workshop is ideal for potters who already have experience with clay and are comfortable with basic hand-building techniques. It is not suitable for beginners.

The workshop runs over two consecutive Sundays, and attendance at both sessions is essential, as each builds on the work completed in the previous class.

Whether you're looking to create sculptural vessels, statement pieces, or simply expand your hand-building skills, this intensive workshop will give you the knowledge and confidence to work on a larger scale.
